About TWO CAMPS

An Unexpected Journey

In 2012 we adopted a child with special needs. Through this adoption, we connected with many families that have also adopted children with special needs and other families with loved ones with special needs. We came to see the work required to be a caregiving family and that many times there is no rest for the weary. Often, we have seen that same need for respite in families caring for their elderly parents, a wounded warrior or another person needing extra care. Two Camps Rest was created in 2019 to help these families.

OUR STORY

Robert & Julie Vilardo

Julie is a 1992 graduate of Ohio State Dental School and has served in a family dental practice since then. Robert served in education for over 35 years as an administrator, teacher, and coach. Robert and Julie Vilardo were married on July 4th, 1992. They have 5 children; 3 biological (Mason, Bransen and Dawsyn) and 2 adopted internationally (Laura from Kazakhstan and Logan from Ukraine).

They have been active in several churches serving as Elders, Directors of Lay Ministries, Directors of Missions, as well as being a part of Worship Teams. They have also been involved with many Non-Profit Organizations even serving on the Board of Directors at times. Some of those NPOs include Zoe’s House, Act of Kindness and May We Help.

The Vilardos have always had a heart for the mission field. They have served as leaders on many short-term mission trips in the past from locally to regionally to internationally. They have been blessed to be able to serve in places like inner-City Cincinnati, New York City, Mississippi, Jamaica, Brazil, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand and more!

The Lord has worked many miracles in the lives of the Vilardos. In 2006 Julie felt called to adopt. Robert and she had discussed previously that they were a full family, so Julie was hesitant to bring it up. In prayer she turned it over to the Lord believing that if it is the Lord’s will, He will put it on Robert’s heart. Several weeks later, Robert approached Julie and let her know that he wanted to look into the possibility of adoption. They moved quickly and within a year brought Laura home from Kazakhstan at the age of 8.

In 2010 while looking at the website Reece’s Rainbow – Special Needs Adoption Support, Julie felt the Lord tugging on her heart to adopt a child with special needs. After much prayer she felt it should be a child with limb differences. They found Logan and brought him to his forever home in 2011.

Julie and Robert recently started Two Camps Rest as a non-profit organization to help provide a
time of respite for caregiving families. They know the hardships that many families face as they provide constant care for loved ones who can’t take care of themselves.
